Welcome to 7th grade Reading and Language Arts, Moody Bearcats!

I'm delighted to kick off another incredible year of learning together.

With six years of teaching experience under my belt, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a passion for education to our classroom. Throughout my teaching career, I have dedicated myself to helping students discover the joy of learning and develop essential reading and language arts skills.

Before stepping into the world of education, I pursued my own academic journey at Texas State University, where I earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Mass Communications and Psychology. While in college, I had the opportunity to work as a substitute teacher, which ignited my passion for teaching and inspired me to pursue a teaching certificate.

As we embark on this new academic year, my goal is to instill in our student a lifelong love of learning, just as my father inspired me with his words of continuous growth. Together, we will explore the wonders of reading and develop critical thinking skills that will serve you well beyond the classroom.

Reading is not just a subject; it is a gateway to new worlds, ideas, and perspectives. Throughout the year, we will dive into various texts, analyzing them, and learning to read between the lines. You will expand your horizons, think creatively, and develop unique voices as we explore different literary skills and hone our ability to express ourselves effectively.

Reading and writing go hand in hand, influencing and enriching one another. When students read, they observe and internalize various writing styles, structures, and techniques. They learn from the works of authors, gaining insights into how to construct compelling narratives, develop persuasive arguments, and convey emotions effectively. Similarly, when students write, they draw upon their reading experiences, using them as a source of inspiration, evidence, and reference.

By fostering an integrated approach to reading and writing, we empower students to become critical readers who can analyze and interpret texts with depth and nuance. Simultaneously, they become skilled writers who can craft well-structured, coherent, and engaging compositions. This holistic approach equips students with the tools they need to succeed academically, communicate effectively in various contexts, and navigate the complexities of the 21st century.

I firmly believe that each student has incredible potential waiting to be unleashed. In our classroom, students will find a supportive and inclusive environment where they can take risks, ask questions, and embrace the joy of learning. I am committed to helping our students succeed and grow both academically and personally.
