Welcome to 5th Grade Math!

I am Mrs. Guess, and I welcome you to 5th Grade Math! Math is truly my passion, and each year, I love to share that passion with my students to help them learn to love Math a little bit more. I know it can be challenging, but together, we can develop ourselves to be problem solvers, critical thinkers, and AMAZING mathematicians.
 
I am excited to start my second year as a Moody Middle School Bearcat! I am married to Mr. Guess, one of your Band Directors, and when I have spare time, you will see me working with the Bearcat Brigade at games, competitions, and fund raisers. Together, Mr. Guess and I have 5 grown children and 10 grandchildren! They are the joys of our lives, and we try to spend as much time with them as possible. I love to travel and go on new adventures. I am looking forward to sharing more about my family and hobbies with you as we get to know each other throughout the year.
 
This is my 14th year in education where I have taught 5th grade Math and Science in addition to serving as an Instructional Coach. My love of math, seeing students have light bulb moments, and hearing "I really CAN do the hard things" is what makes my heart LOVE being a teacher. Math is critical and foundational skill to be used each and every day, no matter your age. My goal is to make all students show growth and to understand how Math connects to their world not only in this moment, but for their future as well.
 
We have lots to learn this year. There will be challenges, bumps, and struggles along the way; however, there will also be exciting breakthroughs, lots of laughter, growth and successes to celebrate. We all have things that stress us out, but working together, we are going to learn to face those challenges head on. We will develop GRIT, TENACITY, and RESILIENCE as we make our way through the 2026-2027 school year. I am so glad you are here!
